Hosting the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2012 would be a huge leap for London and the rest of the UK, according to a new advertising campaign.

The striking ads, based around the theme of a 'Leap for London', feature familiar landmarks and are designed to highlight the benefits the Games would bring.

January 16, Prime Minister Tony Blair  pledged his full backing to London's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Speaking at the bid's official launch, he also offered an assurance to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of the UK's commitment.

  • "Our people, especially the young, will benefit from new facilities. Our next generation of athletes will be better equipped to develop into future Olympians.

  • "Our Games will deliver the best for athletes. A compact Olympic Park with easy access from living quarters to competition venues.

  • "Competitors will be inspired to deliver personal best performances against the backdrop of London's world-famous landmarks.

  • "Hosting the Games in the UK will bring out the best of our athletes. And the pride of the entire nation will bring back that Rugby World Cup victory feeling. Imagine that pride replicated across 28 Olympic sports.

  • "Winning the 2012 Games will be good for British industry: construction, hotel, airline, retail the list goes on.

  • "More people will get off the couch and get involved in sport. They will be inspired. Wide-ranging sport programmes will encourage greater participation. The nation will be fitter and more active.

  • "There will be no greater honour for our capital city than hosting the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. No better way of bringing out the best of London.

  • "A London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will deliver the highest quality sporting event but one with economic and environmental sustainability at its heart. Our aim is to deliver excellence without extravagance.

  • "We have received tremendous support from the boroughs and community groups of the East End.

  • "But to win, we need support from everyone. Thousands have already been in touch with us to offer support. Athletes and sporting organisations are rallying around the bid to improve the prospects of UK competitors.

  • "Our blueprint delivers. For athletes, for spectators, for the people of London and the whole of the UK.

  • "We're proud and excited, and I'm sure that our enthusiasm will spread throughout the UK over the coming months.

  • "We have all seen today that we have enormous support. From the Prime Minster to the Mayor. From athletes to school children, we are united in our support.

  • "Let's build on this momentum and bring out the best we have to offer.

  • "Let's take this opportunity to make a leap for UK sport, a leap for the Olympic Movement and a leap for London."
